Reclaiming Materials: Making a Basket out of Plastic Yarn

Class Description

In this class, students will use “plarn,” or plastic yarn, to create baskets by exploring a variety of techniques.

Plastic bags are a non-biodegradable single-use product that is not commercially recyclable. When they inevitably end up in our waste streams, they wreak havoc on the environment, often being found in the stomachs of animals. Fortunately, many states are now taking steps to ban single-use plastic bags, but they are still very much present in our daily lives.

Plarn is a recycled yarn that is made using plastic bags. If you took “Reclaiming Materials: Turning Plastic into Yarn,” you can use the plarn you made to create your basket, if not, you may purchase a materials package.

By using plarn to make baskets, we remove plastic from our waste streams and give it a new life as a usable object. To register for this class, please email iana.d.dobreva@gmail.com class fee is collected the day of the class.
