Reclaiming Materials: Turning Plastic Bags into Yarn

Class Description:

In this class, you will learn how to process plastic bags to create plastic yarn, or “plarn,”  which is great for making baskets and mats. You are encouraged to bring plastic bags of your own, but there will be a communal supply available as well.

Plastic bags are a non-biodegradable single-use product that is not commercially recyclable. When they inevitably end up in our waste streams, they wreak havoc on the environment and are often found in the stomachs of animals. Fortunately, many states are now taking steps to ban single-use plastic bags, but they are still very much present in our daily lives.

By making and using plarn, we remove plastic bags from our waste streams and give them new life as usable reclaimed material. To register for this class, please email iana.d.dobreva@gmail.com class fee is collected the day of the class.
